Our
ambassador

Alexandre Despatie
Diving athlete and Olympic medallist

Cogir is honored to announce Alexandre Despatie’s involvement in this project as an ambassador for the Olympiads. As an Olympic athlete, he embodies perseverance, determination and sportsmanship – values that resonate particularly well with the Olympiads.
“The Cogir Senior Olympiads are the perfect opportunity for seniors to set themselves new challenges and let conviviality carry them along. I’m proud to be able to take part in this project, which is particularly important to me,” says Alexandre.

Opening
ceremony

Inspired by the spirit of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, the Senior Olympiads aim to promote physical activity and a healthy mindset among seniors. From June to September, the Senior Olympiads will therefore take place in each of Cogir’s private retirement residences, bringing dynamism and conviviality. As the Olympic Games tradition holds, Cogir residences across Canada have passed on the flame to mark the start of the Olympiads.

Competitions

For 8 weeks, participating residents across the country will be able to practice in the discipline of their choice, and then compete against each other to determine the gold, silver and bronze medallists in each residence. Regional finals will then be held in September to determine a final podium and declare the winners in each discipline.

Closing events

In September, a regional closing event will take place, where gold medallists from each resident discipline will compete against gold medallists from other residences in the region, to determine a regional grand winner in each discipline. All residents are invited, participants and non-participants alike, to cheer on the winners and enjoy a great day out. A big walk of 1, 2 or 3 km, in which all residents who wish to take part can do so, will take place to highlight everyone’s involvement. A grand outdoor party with dancing and a show by Sylvie DesGroseillers will bring the regional finals to a successful close.
